Mayo compliments any dish and this salsa mayo certainly did the trick here. Although it was hot, it was so tasty that I kept wanting to have more. I’ve eaten chilli poppers at numerous places, but this rank high up for living true to their name. Brace yourselves, these poppers were hot, like really spicy.

My husband, on the other hand, not a fan of tequila, chose to have the Corona Cerveza. Mexican restaurant why not choose something the Mexicans created especially something containing Tequila. Drinksįor drinks, I chose the frozen strawberry margarita, which was divine. As there were decal and frames filling up most of the walls and other available surfaces. The decor of the Fat Cactus is quite eclectic. They do have two further branches, one in Mowbray and the other in Gardens. Our visit was to the Fat Cactus branch in Woodstock which is situated on Albert Road. Any guesses as to which day of the week we chose to try out the Fat Cactus? Yes, on a Friday night, we did, however, choose to be seated indoors which suited us as the hangout spot in at their outdoor seating area. She did forewarn us that during a Friday and Saturday night, it’s usually a hangout for the younger crowd. So, when a friend suggested that we try out the Fat Cactus, I was more than eager. The best thing that has ever happened to avocados is guacamole. There are so many other great mexican spots in the aea.First of all, who is ever opposed to indulging in authentic Mexican food? That’s what I suspected, me neither. Save yourself the time/money and skip out on Fat Cactus Cantina. The DJ played great music - it would've been way better if there was room for a dance floor, like Hotoke used to have back in the day. Music/Vibes: honestly, the only saving grace. All our food took a REALLY long time to come out because they were backed-up, which is fine, but you'd think it would at least be hot. The shrimp tacos and steak were both cold and overcooked. We had empanadas, which I'm not sure you can even classify as empanadas (essentially shredded chicken in super greasy fried tortillas). Food: reaaally overpriced for what it was. Again, not sure if there was even tequila in them. We decided to try the frozen mango margaritas on the next round and they came out fully liquid with this weird texture situation. We actually ended up having to buy our own tequila to pour into the margaritas. We waited a super long time (because the bar was also backed up) and the drinks were still essentially sour mix. Drinks: their drink menu is very extensive but I'm honestly not sure if ANY of our drinks had alcohol in them. Unfortunatlry, her attitude was telling of the night experience after that.
Again, if they were super busy - I would understand but there was literally atleast 10 tables available each inside and outside. When we walked in, the hostess was super rude saying they texted us a bunch of times and ended up canceling our reservation. However, we took our time since we had just gotten drinks and the restaurant was empty. The miscalculation was annoying but not a huge deal. I texted back with a "1" that we were on our way. We decided to go get a drink somewhere and they texted us to come in within 10 minutes. When we walked in, there were a ton of tables (indoor and outdoor) and the hostess told me there would be a 30 minute wait for a table, which had a 1-hour time limit. Service: quite possibly the worst part of the experience. From the outside, Fat Cactus seems really promising but it only disappoints.
